Digital technologies and their influence on the society have been extensively studied in the last decade. However, research has failed to meet the pace of technological changes to comprehend and evaluate the ‘affect’ of smartphone usage among society members. It’s evident that the active visual engagement with our smartphone screens can influence a variety of emotions on the people around us and as a result may curtail sociability.
The thesis our new team member Deniz, investigates the emotional impact of people’s engagement with smartphones in public spaces, and it’s possible impact on the subjective experience of public spaces sociability. Deniz says “Together, we can discuss my shortcomings, future research proposals and how/why I should publish this paper.” and invites the ATÖLYE community to her Feedback Session at tea time!
