Emerging Technologies: Practices from Italy and Turkey

As part of this exchange, we’re hosting a public event to share the practices at emerging technologies in Italy and Turkey in partnership with KARMA Lab. The event will start with Massimilliano’s presentation about immersive/XR/360 examples deriving from Warehouse. It’ll continue with a discussion on how creative hubs can work with 360/XR initiatives and how this topic, both as a new opportunity for storytelling/perspective taking and emerging technology and can provide new windows and skills for the hub communities.

The Creative FLIP project strives to support healthy and sustainable ecosystems related to Finance, Learning, Innovation and Patenting for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). The project is implemented by a consortium of six partners, co-financed by European Commission and spearheaded by Goethe-Institut and European Creative Hubs Network. Each of the partners brings forth their renowned specialist expertise in the specific areas covered by the project.

Massimiliano Camillucci is a freelancer IT consultant focused on Digital Innovation and New Technologies for both SMEs, Public Administrations and Non Profit Organisations. Member of the WCF community since 2017, he works as a freelance developer and consultant since 2018. He worked as UI/UX Designer, Project Manager, Software Analyst in within IT Services and Digital Entertainment companies. Since 2017 he’s studying and developing AR and VR apps solutions for Marketing and Edutainment. As part of the WCF’s Community he develops activities and workshops to share his passion for technologies, Lean and Agile approach to design and develop digital projects, products and services.

Michael Barngrover is a VR designer and developer based in Koç University’s KARMA Lab, where he is also a PhD candidate focused on collaboration in shared virtual spaces. In addition to consulting on and developing virtual applications for businesses and institutions, he also develops independent VR projects celebrating aspects of local history and culture.

Ali Vatansever is an urban photographer and filmmaker. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Product Design, MA in Cinema and TV, and MFA degree in Film Production at Rochester Institute of Technology, New York with a Fulbright Grant. In 2003, he started his film career with directing short films, documentaries and music videos. Ali is pursuing his directing career within Terminal Film, a production company he co-founded in 2008 and teaching Film at Koç University, Media and Visual Arts Department and Fundamentals of XR and 360 Film Production in KARMA Lab.

Asım Evren Yantaç completed his PhD in Interaction Design, he studied his Post Doc studies in Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, on the topic of employing mixed reality technologies for sensory normalization of individuals with autism. He works as a research faculty at Media and Visual Arts Department and Research Center for Creative Industries at Koç University, since 2013, where he runs the Happern Research Group, that focuses on exploratory research studies on user experience design, interaction and information design and extended reality technologies. In 2019, together with Ivon Bensason, he established KARMA Mixed Reality Lab at Koç University.
