About the job - Communications Lead
The role of the Communications Lead at ATÖLYE is a key leadership role that entails leading and coaching the Communications team made up of communication designers, wordsmiths, and trainees as well as managing relationships with contractors, key strategic partners, and many other stakeholders.
The Communications Lead also serves as one of the key function leaders within the Shared Services team, working closely with leadership, project teams, the People and Culture team, and the Technology and Operations team.
The Communications Lead is responsible for capturing and disseminating the stories that emerge from both sides of ATÖLYE’s organizational model; the global design/consultancy work and the initiatives related to fostering creative communities in MENA.
Top qualities we seek:
Craft: For the role of Communications Lead, native or near-native fluency in English with impeccable attention to detail in written and verbal communication is a must. This role involves capturing concepts and ideas in words as much as it includes strategizing, planning, and leading. You will be tasked with creating compelling narratives and have a strong understanding of design fundamentals such as form, color, type, and layout. Deep technical knowledge regarding writing/producing for various media is a key required skill.
Experience: This role requires deep experience and knowledge of offline and online production processes; such as web production/development, content management, marketing operations as well as the ability to plan for events, media outreach, strategic partnerships, corporate communication activities. Experience in event planning, programming, and management is also an important skill for this role.
Leadership: You will be required to demonstrate your experience in leading teams of creatives, designers, writers, and project managers. You will also be asked to demonstrate past communications work. This role entails mobilizing people by setting timely and realistic objectives, so, fluency in project management practices will be crucial to be able to make healthy estimations and project plans.
Crafting an adaptive strategy: Creating and executing ATÖLYE’s global communications strategy annually in line with the overall adaptive strategy and the 3-year vision. Steering ATÖLYE’s communication strategy towards becoming a global organization. This role’s responsibility includes managing communications for both ATÖLYE’s consultancy business and the community arm (including hub locations).
Creating orbits of audiences: Taking ownership of the entirety of ATÖLYE’s external communications channels and the audiences orbiting ATÖLYE’s online and offline presence. This includes ATÖLYE’s social media, newsletters, websites, physical, digital, or hybrid events, and other audience touchpoints.
Disseminating messages: Facilitating the creation of project narratives for ATÖLYE’s client work and collaborating with project teams to create impact-focused narratives. Constantly monitoring and improving ATÖLYE’s audience engagement and the quality and authenticity of stories.
Designing systems: This role is heavily reliant on designing systems that facilitate the collaboration of between project teams and shared functions (such as People & Culture, Communications, Technology and Operations) or between two or more shared functions. You will be tasked with making sure these systems are functioning, streamlined, and facilitate the creation of authentic and intriguing content that would turn into communication pieces (e.g. project case studies, social media posts, newsletter blurbs, community news, project collaborations…)
Advocating the brand: Becoming the owner and advocate of the ATÖLYE brand alongside the Visual Communication Design Lead. Making sure the ATÖLYE brand evolves along with ATÖLYE’s business strategy to achieve consistent messaging.
Leading thought leadership: Facilitating ATÖLYE’s thought leadership initiatives, disseminating impact stories for ATÖLYE’s portfolio elements, looking out for opportunities for ATÖLYE’s thought leaders to join globally reputable events, panels, talks, workshops. Owning and managing ATÖLYE’s award application processes from selection to seeing through all the way to the end of production.
What makes you an ideal candidate:
Experience working in a strategy or design consultancy setting in a similar capacity. Preferably in a leadership position with coaching and mentoring experience.
Facilitation skills; experience in designing and facilitating workshops, meetings, co-design sessions.
Fluency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, G Suite and other tools to review work and contribute to design/production processes even though no hands-on design skills are required for this position.
Fluency in frameworks such as design thinking or human-centered design. Ability to take a designerly approach against challenges to be able to quickly ideate, prototype, release, and iterate.

ATÖLYE has two hubs in Istanbul and Dubai that house its core team and its community. However, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adopted a hybrid way of working where team members can choose to work remotely and visit the ATÖLYE spaces when their physical presence is necessary.
